نقلت صحيفة "واشنطن بوست" عن مسؤول عسكري أميركي قوله إن زوارق الحرس الثوري الإيراني قامت بعمل خطير من خلال تحرشها بسفينتين أميركيتين في المياه الخليجية، الأمر الذي كان من الممكن أن يؤدي إلى سوء تقدير.وذكرت الصحيفة، أن سفينة الدورية USS Sirocco الأميركية، كانت إلى جانب سفينة النقل العسكرية عالية السرعة USNS Choctaw County، تعبر المياه الخليجية عندما بدأت ثلاثة زوارق إيرانية في التحرك نحوهما.وقال المسؤول العسكري الأميركي الذي لم يذكر اسمه لصحيفة "واشنطن بوست" إنه في يوم الإثنين، 20 يونيو، اقتربت زوارق سريعة تابعة للحرس الثوري من سفينتين أميركيتين في خطوة "خطيرة وتتعارض مع المعايير الدولية".وقامت الزوارق الإيرانية بتغيير مسار حركتها، فقط عندما أصدرت سفينة الدورية الأميركية تحذيرا صوتيا. وخلال ذلك اقتربت الزوارق من سفينة النقل لمسافة 46 مترا تقريبا، وبعد ذلك أطلق الأميركيون قذيفة تحذير ضوئية.وشددت الصحيفة على أن هذا الحادث، استمر حوالي ساعة.من جانبه، قال المتحدث باسم القيادة المركزية الأميركية جوزيف بوتشينو، إن تصرفات الجانب الإيراني "لا تفي بالمعايير الدولية للسلوك المهني أو عوامل الأمان في البحر"، ويمكن أن تؤدي أيضا إلى اشتباك عسكري.وتحرش الزوارق السريعة للحرس الثوري الإيراني هي أحدث مواجهة مع السفن الأميركية في المياه الخليجية. ففي العام الماضي، قامت ثلاثة زوارق سريعة تابعة للحرس الثوري بمواجهة مماثلة مع سفينة أميركية وغادرت المكان بعد إطلاق تحذير.

MSOs have a multi-layered security posture utilizing a variety of assets to detect, disrupt and destroy terrorist attempts to harm the infrastructure of Iraq. This includes the security and normalization of commercial shipping into and out of Iraq and the Khor Al Amaya and Al Basrah Oil Terminals. The USS Sirocco (PC-6) and USS Mustin (DDG-89) work with the Carl Vinson Strike Group supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
