حذر الرئيس الأمريكي جو بايدن نظيره الأوكراني فلاديمير زيلينسكي، من أنه سيصعب عليه توفير المال لسلطات كييف، إذا استمر الأخير في التحدث علانية عن عدم كفاية المساعدات الأمريكية.ونقلت "واشنطن بوست"، عن مسؤول سابق في البيت الأبيض: "قال بايدن للرئيس الأوكراني في محادثة خاصة، إنه سيكون من الصعب عليه مواصلة طلب المال من الكونغرس لأوكرانيا إذا بدا زيلينسكي ناكرا للجميل وواصل في الشكوى علنا من عدم كفاية المساعدات الأمريكية".وأشارت الصحيفة إلى أن زيلينسكي، طالما دعا الولايات المتحدة وحلفاءها مرات عديدة علنا لتوفير أسلحة إضافية لأوكرانيا، على الرغم من أن بايدن والكونغرس أرسلا كميات غير مسبوقة من المساعدات والأسلحة الحديثة إلى كييف.ونوهت الصحيفة بظهور انقسام في النخبة السياسية الأمريكية حول المساعدات بمليارات الدولارات التي يتم إرسالها إلى أوكرانيا. ومن المرجح أن يتعمق هذا الشرخ بشكل كبير إذا استعاد الجمهوريون السيطرة على مجلس النواب في الثامن من نوفمبر.
